Log #21 (No Sleep Again)

Last night was another one of those nights where sleep was a rare commodity. Yesterday I wrote about how much I love getting out to watch my two youngest boys play little league baseball. I also wrote about how much pain and discomfort I had afterward.

Well, my groin pain hasn't let up very much since then and it kept me awake most of the night. That added to the insomnia side effect of Savella. Even after taking some Ambian, I fell asleep at about 3:00am and at 4:30am my wife's alarm clock when off to wake her up for work. I've always been the type that when my alarm would wake me up for work I always got right up and started my routine. I don't like or trust the snooze button. My wife however, is the opposite so when the alarm goes off she lingers in bed for a while trying to wake up. This makes me nervous and I can't go back to sleep until I know she's getting up. I worry that she'll fall back asleep and end up being late for work so I make sure that doesn't happen. Once I'm awake I have a very difficult time going back to sleep.

This morning was no different even though I was so tired. I ended up staying awake until after my boys left for school and eventually started sleeping fitfully from 8:00am until 11:30am. That was when my wife called on her lunch break so we can see how each other is doing. It's a ritual that we've had from the beginning of our marriage when I was working and she was at home.

After the phone call my ability to fall back asleep was over with because I had to get up for the bathroom and my groin flared up again. Almost everyone can identify with what it's like not to get enough sleep so I don't need to go much further with that except to say that on average I get around 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night and I sometimes get a nap in the early evening that's between 1 to 2 hours. Therefore I rarely get enough sleep. When I AM sleeping it's sometimes not very deep so I don't reach the level of rest my body needs. This usually goes on for three or four nights until I'm totally exhausted and sleep a full night.

I can't take much more today so I'm signing off. Good night everyone.
