Log #53 (Dropping Libido)

I'm probably going to keep this short because I'm very tired and I still have to do some enemas (woo who!) before I go to bed or I'll be up all night with the hiccups again.

I woke up early this morning and never went back to sleep. I tried taking a nap today, but I was in and out of sleep and it didn't do much for me. Staying on the topic of sleep, I have to say that one area that the Lyrica has changed for me is my ability to fall asleep quickly. It has always been hard for me to fall asleep, but with the Lyrica I fall asleep within a few minutes. I don't stay asleep all night, but at least I fall asleep fast.
Up until the last couple of days I would have given Lyrica a positive rating, but one of the side effects has been building until it's become too annoying. It is affecting my libido by shutting it down (See drug report). I'm a typical guy that thinks about sex a lot, but the longer I take this stuff the less that sex even crosses my mind. It's bad enough that my wife as noticed the change in the things I say and how I act.

I didn't notice it when I was taking Lyrica right after my surgery because I was in no shape to think about that stuff any way. The way I see it, I don't care how well a medication works, if it affects my libido then it isn't worth it. One of the articles I read today said that this side effect sometimes goes away as the body adjusts to the medication. I may just give it a little while to see if that is true. I go back in to see the Pain Management doctor next week and if the problem isn't any better or worse by then then I'll have to explore other medications.

If some chemist could develop a pill that counteracts this kind of side effect (it's associated with more medications then you may think) he/she would be a billionaire.  If you were once a dynamo and now you no longer feel like getting in the mood it would be a good idea to go through each of your medications and check the internet to see if loss of sexual desire is a side effect.  Don't assume it's just a natural change in your life.

One of the followers made a comment about a website that I think is a valuable resource for anyone struggling with Chronic Pain, no matter what the cause of it is. I'd give it a five star rating as far as these types of sites are concerned. I think I'll add a "Links" page. Click here: Invisible Disabilities.

I'm off to do my enema. Good night all.
